BIRMINGHAM SHOWS _ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

This morning Sandwell Council informed me that the Dog shows are the only event that has not been cancelled during the mourning period. Not only in Sandwell but also the surrounding councils.

They are expecting negative backlash and press coverage due to this decision. I have had to give them my contact number, email address and also Peter’s FB so they can pass onto the press.

I am expecting a tremendous amount of work to be generated by this action. I will need everyone’s support and maybe help during the show. If anyone of the general public makes negative comments please direct them to me DO NOT engage in an aggressive response.

THE SHOW WILL BE GOING ON

I intend to have a minutes silence at 9.00am followed by the playing of the National Anthem on both days. Please let us have a load of applause following this. If the Press or public are there they will see that we are being respectful.

JUDGING WILL BE DELAYED TILL 9.20 to give competitors in the running order time to prepare their dogs.

On Monday 19th September, the day of the funeral, there will be no training of dogs on the event field between the hours of 10am – 2pm. Again showing a mark of respect.

YOUR CO-OPERATION IS REQUIRED AND APPRECIATED ( we do not want any negative response).

To the Press I will be emphasising the fact that the Queen was an animal lover, especially a dog lover, and I do not think she would want events such as ours cancelling. If anyone thinks there is any other positive comments to be made I welcome all suggestions. Other animal sports on private grounds have taken place.
On a lighter note due to the very dry summer the Council have now put in a new regulation – NO BARBEQUES OR OPEN FIRES ON THE SITE. Please adjust your shopping lists to accommodate this new rule.

Hoping we have an enjoyable and trouble free show.

Championship Obedience Status Allocations

Following Waldridge Fell Dog Training Society and East Grinstead & District Dog Training Club relinquishing their Championship Obedience status, The Kennel Club invited applications for clubs to take over the vacancies.

A number of applications were received, all of which showed merit. After careful consideration the relinquished spots were allocated to Wakefield Dog Training Club and Cheltenham & District Dog Training Club.

WELSH OWNER AND DOG BECOME CRUFTS OBEDIENCE CHAMPIONS

Luca, a working sheepdog, and his owner Carolyn Heath from Wenvoe, Wales, took home one of the top obedience prizes at Crufts on Saturday 12 March after winning the Obedience Championship (dog) final. The judge was Mrs Pat Watson.

Eight-year-old Luca (Jezzady It’s Time To Play), came first in the final held at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, after competing against some of Britain’s best dogs for the coveted title.

All competitors at the championships had made it through to the final after qualifying at one of the championship shows that were held last year.

ADDITIONAL ACCREDITED TRAINERS FOR OBEDIENCE NEEDED FOR JUDGES’ TRAINING PROGRAMME

The Kennel Club is calling for anyone interested in becoming an Obedience Accredited Trainer for the judges’ training programme to get in touch.

This judges’ training programme has been developed over a period of time and follows the requirements already in place for those involved in judging other canine activities. It underlines the Kennel Club’s commitment to maintaining and improving the standard of judges and judging at official Kennel Club licensed events and, in so doing, ensures the quality of dogs and the value of awards they receive at these events.

Although events continue to be subject to change due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, updated versions of the specimen schedules for breed shows, agility, obedience, working trials, Bloodhound trials, heelwork to music and rally can now be downloaded from the Kennel Club website, in order to assist societies with planning.

Organisers of Kennel Club licensed events are reminded that all competition schedules must conform to the current specimen schedules, and that no changes may be made to a show/trial schedule once issued, except with the permission of the Kennel Club.
