{"id":412,"date":"2021-02-12T12:54:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T12:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/obedienceuk.news\/wordpress\/?p=412"},"modified":"2021-02-12T12:54:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T12:54:00","slug":"home-secretarys-commitment-to-stronger-penalties-for-pet-theft-welcomed-by-the-kennel-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/obedienceuk.news\/wordpress\/home-secretarys-commitment-to-stronger-penalties-for-pet-theft-welcomed-by-the-kennel-club\/","title":{"rendered":"HOME SECRETARY\u2019S COMMITMENT TO STRONGER PENALTIES FOR PET THEFT WELCOMED BY THE KENNEL CLUB"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Long-term vision deemed crucial to protect nation\u2019s dogs during \u2018puppy pandemic\u2019 effect on ownership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK\u2019s largest organisation dedicated to dog health and welfare has welcomed a commitment from the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, to introduce tougher measures on pet theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kennel Club, which last year launched its Be Puppywise campaign\u00a0as\u00a0thousands sought\u00a0creature comfort during the pandemic, has long pushed\u00a0for amends to the Animal Welfare Act to make pet theft a specific offence which recognises the theft of a dog, or any other pet, has an impact that far exceeds any associated financial cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Ed Hayes, Head of Public Affairs at The Kennel Club, said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted that the Home Secretary has recognised the devastating effects of pet theft and the need for reform, especially in the current climate where demand for dogs&nbsp;is sky-high and criminals are cashing in.
