CHANGES TO THE KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME SPECIAL PRE-BEGINNER OBEDIENCE STAKES IN 2021

FURTHER CHANGES AND CLARIFICATION – THE KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME SPECIAL PRE-BEGINNER OBEDIENCE STAKES IN 2021 – UPDATED 11.06.21

In view of the continuing restrictions affecting dog shows further changes have been made to the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Special Pre- Beginner Obedience Stakes heats in 2021.

The qualifying criteria for this year has been amended so that there are no semi- final stages to the competition. All heats will now offer two qualifying places for the highest placed dogs in each heat that have not already qualified. The qualifying dog & handler teams from each heat will now qualify for Crufts 2022.

As there are a reduced number of shows we accept that heats are not equally spread across the UK. In view of this, the decision has been taken to include an additional qualifying place for the heats held in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Heats held at Burnbank DTC and Lisburn & District DTC will now offer three qualifying places for the highest placed dogs in each heat that have not already qualified for this year only.

As this is a Stakes qualifying class for the Grand Final and Final for YKC Members, each heat will be required to conduct run-offs for individual places (1st -10th place). All Young Kennel Club members handling in this class must ensure the Show Society has been informed that they are a member and that their name is noted as the handler of the dog when booking into this class on the day.

For 2021 the exercises remain the same other than the covid related amendments already announced.
Stays – The stay exercise will be removed from the test in line with current covid safe advice and will not be replaced by another exercise.
Play Exercise – Each hander will be asked to place their own toy ( if using one) in a covid safe area at the end of the exercise. The toy will not be taken by the Ring steward.
Gate Exercise – The gate will need to be sanitized between competitors.
