THE KENNEL CLUB URGES DOG OWNERS IN SCOTLAND TO RESPOND TO DOG THEFT CONSULTATION

The Kennel Club has welcomed a consultation, launched by Maurice Golden, MSP for North East Scotland, to introduce a specific criminal offence for dog theft, and is urging the public to respond to ensure their views are heard.

The proposed Dog Abduction (Scotland) Bill aims to create a new statutory offence to tackle the problem of dog theft, and other situations where a dog is taken or kept without lawful authority. It would take account of considerations such as the feelings of dogs and dog welfare, as well as improving data recording to better inform detection and prevention efforts.

THE KENNEL CLUB URGES DOG OWNERS IN HASTINGS TO RESPOND TO RESTRICTIVE CONSULTATION

The Kennel Club is calling on dog owners who live in Hastings to respond to a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) consultation that could severely impact their access to popular locations with their dogs, including parks and beaches.

The proposed PSPO would see dog owners unable to walk their dog off lead across a significant number of outdoor spaces, including all parks and gardens with a children’s playground or open play area, between 9am-5pm. Furthermore, the proposals also look to restrict dog walkers from allowing their dogs off-lead on local beaches during the weekends, over the winter period.

OBEDIENCE LIAISON COUNCIL MEETING 17 JANUARY 2023

The next meeting of the Kennel Club Obedience Liaison Council is scheduled to be held on Tuesday 17 January 2023. Proposals for inclusion on the agenda should reach the Obedience Liaison Council Secretary by 26 October 2022.

Each eligible society or an individual may submit items for the agenda, through a council representative. Proposals must be concise and, if an amendment or an additional regulation is proposed, the regulation number must be given. All submissions must be signed by the society/individual and the representative.

Please note, all items for inclusion on the agenda should be sent by email to obedience@thekennelclub.org.uk.

BIRMINGHAM SHOWS _ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

This morning Sandwell Council informed me that the Dog shows are the only event that has not been cancelled during the mourning period. Not only in Sandwell but also the surrounding councils.

They are expecting negative backlash and press coverage due to this decision. I have had to give them my contact number, email address and also Peter’s FB so they can pass onto the press.

I am expecting a tremendous amount of work to be generated by this action. I will need everyone’s support and maybe help during the show. If anyone of the general public makes negative comments please direct them to me DO NOT engage in an aggressive response.

THE SHOW WILL BE GOING ON

I intend to have a minutes silence at 9.00am followed by the playing of the National Anthem on both days. Please let us have a load of applause following this. If the Press or public are there they will see that we are being respectful.

JUDGING WILL BE DELAYED TILL 9.20 to give competitors in the running order time to prepare their dogs.

On Monday 19th September, the day of the funeral, there will be no training of dogs on the event field between the hours of 10am – 2pm. Again showing a mark of respect.

YOUR CO-OPERATION IS REQUIRED AND APPRECIATED ( we do not want any negative response).

To the Press I will be emphasising the fact that the Queen was an animal lover, especially a dog lover, and I do not think she would want events such as ours cancelling. If anyone thinks there is any other positive comments to be made I welcome all suggestions. Other animal sports on private grounds have taken place.
On a lighter note due to the very dry summer the Council have now put in a new regulation – NO BARBEQUES OR OPEN FIRES ON THE SITE. Please adjust your shopping lists to accommodate this new rule.
